Gary Neville mocks Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli, says they should keep him for a decade

Gary Neville joked that Liverpool should hold onto Mario Balotelli.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has joked Liverpool should not boot Mario Balotelli out of the club just yet.

Neville was asked during a question and answer session for Breathe Sport whether Liverpool should give the Italian another season to prove himself, after a disappointing debut campaign for the club.

The pundit replied: "Absolutely and a 10 year contract."

Balotelli will be fortunate to survive at Liverpool past transfer deadline day, having been left out of the club's pre-season activities.

The Italian international scored only one Premier League goal for the Reds last season after his transfer from AC Milan, and has been linked with a move away from the club.

Sampdoria were linked last month by The Express, and while there is no progression on a deal, a fee upwards of £10 million would surely tempt Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool have options in attack, even if Daniel Sturridge struggles with injuries, new signing Christian Benteke has a chance of making a major impact, while Divock Origi and Danny Ings are also vying for roles.
