West Ham United coach Julian Dicks feels the club's younger players are starting to get chances.

West Ham United coach Julian Dicks has told the club’s official website that he feels the younger players are starting to get chances at the club.

Dicks is confident that the club’s youngsters won’t be ignored by manager Slaven Bilic and Dicks has also identified a key area where he feels the club will be working in training this week.

His comments suggest that any younger player coming into the team, needs to buy into the philosophy that Bilic is trying to create at the football club.

“The young players are getting their chances. Reece (Oxford) is a very good player and we will use him when we can. I thought Lewis (Page) did well at left back. It was a good test for them,” he told whufc.com.

“We have to close people down and work hard and I'm sure the gaffer will be working on that in training this week.”

Two reasons the youngsters are important for Bilic

Bilic has been very active in the transfer market, bringing in several new players to improve different areas of the team for a very long season.

Once the transfer window closes, it will be difficult for him to sign new players and to make changes.

The youngsters are one platform where he can draw on new players, if the club is going through a period where injuries and suspensions mean several key players are unavailable.

The younger players are also important because they form the next generation of players in the first team.

They will be the spine around which Bilic builds the rest of the team over coming years and therefore, they are vital to the development of the football club.
