Arsenal media round-up: Ferdinand makes claim over Gunners summer business

A round up of news stories this morning related to Arsenal.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been quoted by the Daily Express claiming that Arsenal have done the best transfer business of the summer.

Ferdinand says he would make the claim, even if the Gunners had only signed goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea.

The Gunners looked in decent form as they defeated Chelsea to win the Community Shield yesterday.

“Arsenal have made the best signings, I would say that even if they had just signed Petr Cech,” he said.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been quoted by CityAM suggesting the benefit Petr Cech created for the side yesterday.

Wenger has suggested that it would have been difficult for any Chelsea player to score against their old colleague during the game yesterday.

Cech showed just why the club paid £11 million to sign him with a solid and professional performance.

“Cech did well and maybe had an influence on the Chelsea players as well because they feel to score against him they have to score the perfect goal,” he said.

Wenger has also been quoted by the Daily Express dismissing the club’s chances of signing Karim Benzema from Real Madrid.

The Arsenal boss was quick to deny his club had any chance of signing the French forward, with the paper suggesting that the Gunners are keen on a move.

However, it looks as though it will be another forward if Arsenal are considering bringing in an extra attacker.

“No, honestly no,” said Wenger when asked about signing the forward.
