The Chile international has become one of the hottest prospects on the market following his wonderful form during his nation’s recent Copa America triumph.
The Internacional defensive midfielder is ready to leave South America in order to try his hand at European football, and Leicester City are among those willing to give him that shot.
However, despite the Foxes having a £10.5 million bid accepted, Aranguiz has shunned their offer by admitting he prefers a move to Leverkusen and cited their current status as his reasoning.
“President told me there's a bid from Leicester and it's good for the club but for me, Leverkusen is important. I am not talking about money,” he explained, quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Between Leverkusen and Leicester, the best is Leverkusen; they're a bigger team. I want to go.”
Over the past few days, Claudio Ranieri’s side have really stepped up their search for that all-important Esteban Cambiasso replacement and a number of reports suggest a deal is close.
Moreover, the club currently have former Inter Milan youngster Alessandro Cannataro training with the club ahead of a potential switch, another midfielder to bolster to their ranks.
While missing out on Internacional’s Aranguiz to Leverkusen would be a blow, Leicester are exploring other options and appear like they will add to their squad ahead of next weekend’s season opener.
