Leeds United impressed in their final pre-season friendly against Everton.
Leeds United had to wait a while for their first senior pre-season friendly win, but when it came it was an emphatic statement of intent for the upcoming Championship campaign.
Draws against Harrogate Town and York City were followed by 2-1 defeats against German sides Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim, but there had been glimpses in those matches of Rosler’s methods and when the Toffees arrived at Elland Road the Whites proved they had bought into their new manager’s ethos wholeheartedly.
There will still be doubters among the Leeds supporters; those who feel they have not sufficiently strengthened or that something will simply go wrong – as it almost invariably has in recent years – but the fact is Saturday’s performance spoke of better things to come.
Chris Wood looks like a wonderful addition while Alex Mowatt and Lewis Cook are only going to get better and should go on to become full England internationals in time.
Then there is loanee Tom Adeyemi who looks a canny addition, while Sol Bamba’s permanent signing was a necessity and the Ivorian looks set to dominate the vast majority of forwards that he comes across.
Leeds were organised throughout against their top-flight opponents and the manner in which Mowatt scored his goal following a 10-pass move and a sublime one-two with Sam Byram spoke of a side that could surprise many in the Championship this season.
Leeds have the players, they have the manager and it seems they have the style…the question is: Do they have the necessary luck to finally get back to the Premier League?
