Dick Advocaat continues to add to his squad, with central midfield a clear priority.
Sunderland look set to bolster their midfield ranks with the signing Rubin Kazan midfielder Yann M’Vila.
The 25-year old is due to arrive on Wearside to undergo a medical ahead of signing a one-year deal, according to L’Equipe.
M’Vila was one of the most highly-rated prospects in Europe during his time with Rennes but his move to Rubin Kazan in 2013 has seen his stock plummet.
An underwhelming debut campaign with Kazan saw the Frenchman move to Inter Milan on a season long loan last summer but again he failed to impress.
The loan spell was cut short in January and M’Vila failed to make an impact on his return to Kazan.
A move to Dynamo Moscow looked to be on the cards - with M’Vila training with the club - but now appears to have fallen through, with the Black Cats set to swoop in.
News of the Frenchman’s imminent signing comes after reports emerged, via the likes of The Sun , that Sunderland have agreed a deal for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Leroy Fer, indicating Advocaat's determination to bolster central midfield.
