According to a report in The Mirror, Sunderland have been offered the chance to sign former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato for a £5 million fee.
The Brazilian international initially burst onto the scene with Milan, scoring 48 goals in all competitions for the Italian giants between the years of 2008 and 2010.
However, a number of injuries and decline in form soon impacted his motivation in Europe and a return to his native Brazil came to light in 2013, with the striker joining Corinthians.
Pato’s career continued to stall for a while, resulting in a loan switch to Sao Paulo where he has since managed to rediscover his form somewhat - scoring 30 goals in his last 74 appearances.
As a result, a return to Europe has been widely speculated throughout Brazil and fresh reports claim his future club could be that of Dick Advocaat’s Sunderland side.
A potential deal could come about due to the club’s shortage in the final third and the possibility of Connor Wickham leaving the Stadium of Light.
The futures of Steven Fletcher and Danny Graham are also said to be uncertain, while Dick Advocaat is seemingly scouring the market for a potential partner for new signing Jeremain Lens.
