Report: Everton join race for Newcastle target Charlie Austin

Everton, West Ham United and Newcastle United are all reportedly interested in Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin.

Everton are interested in signing Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers this summer, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that the Toffees want to recruit the English forward as manager Roberto Martinez has doubts on the fitness of star striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgium international suffered an injury in a pre-season friendly game against Dundee last month.

According to The Sun, Newcastle United are keen on signing Austin, but they are now facing “stiff competition” from Premier League rivals Everton.

Too late for Newcastle United?

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Austin since the end of the 2014-15 season, and they will have no one but themselves to blame if they miss out on the 26-year-old.

With QPR having been relegated to the Championship at the end of last season, the Magpies should have secured the services of Austin long back.

Along with Merseyside outfit Everton, West Ham United are also reported to be stepping up their interest in the Rangers star.

According to The Mirror, the Hammers are readying a bid for the former Burnley man, who scored 18 goals and created 23 chances in 35 Premier League appearances for QPR last season.
