Derby County are said to be rivalling Hull City for Brentford £8 million-rated striker Andre Gray.

According to The Sun on Sunday, as quoted by the Hull Daily Mail, Derby County are ready to battle Hull City for £8 million-rated Brentford forward Andre Gray.

The report states that the Tigers may have to pay upwards of £8 million and beat off competition from Derby to secure the services of the Bees frontman.

Gray, who can play out wide as well as upfront, scored 18 goals, with 8 assists, in all competitions last season and played a huge role in the London club's top six finish.

Should Derby look to sign Andre Gray for the reported £8 million price tag?

New head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen will be reluctant to lose the club's top goalscorer this close to the Championship season starting, so it's no surprise the asking price is so high.

Paul Clement has already suggested the Rams are in for another attacker, as previously reported by HITC, but a player of Gray's quality and expense would come as a surprise.

The reported £8 million fee would once again break Derby's transfer record, having already broken it once this summer to secure Tom Ince's signing, and Clement already has plenty of quality in attack.

Darren Bent, Andreas Weimann, Johnny Russell, Simon Dawkins, Chris Martin and Ince could all be called upon for the Rams this season, so Gray may not even be a guaranteed starter in Clement's side.

It is a signing that is far from a necessity and could end up not improving the side as his presence could push someone else out. If someone was to leave, he would be a good option, but until then it should be one the Rams put on the back burner.
