Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach in a pre-season friendly at home on Saturday.
Newcastle United ended their pre-season schedule on a disappointing note, as they went down 1-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach at home on Saturday.
Thorgan Hazard’s goal proved to be the difference between the two sides at St. James’ Park.
It was the Magpies’ final pre-season game, one which frustrated head coach Steve McClaren, as the photos from the game suggest.
Newcastle did not have a great pre-season, and one suspects that the Premier League outfit still need to make one or two more signings.
McClaren’s side will be aiming for a top-10 finish in the Premier League this season, and they do have a squad that can compete for that.
However, to achieve that objective, Newcastle need to make a strong start to the season and collect as many points as possible from their home matches.
Last season, the Magpies narrowly avoided relegation from the top flight of English football, having struggled for points throughout the second half of the campaign under John Carver.
