The 21-year-old headed to Anfield from Tottenham last summer and signed a two-year-deal with the Reds in May, however, he is some way down the pecking order for the goalkeeping gloves, and there had been reports last week by Talksport that he was being lined up to join Kevin Stewart and Jordan Williams on loan at Swindon.
Despite that, when Liverpool arrived at the County Ground on Sunday, with many itching to see Christian Benteke and Firmino make their debuts, it was some surprise to see Vigouroux taking his place in the Robins' goal, with Swindon having advertised that there would be a trialist between the sticks.
Though Vigouroux gave a decent account of himself, making solid saves against Benteke early on, the game was nearly notable for all the wrong reasons, as he clattered with Firmino within two minutes of kick off. The Brazilian was looking to take the ball round the goalkeeper, and Vigouroux got to it first with his feet, also sending the former Hoffenheim man sprawling.
There was some concern as the 23-year-old looked to be struggling, and Brendan Rodgers and Vigouroux himself must surely have been concerned.
Luckily for everyone, Firmino was back on the pitch after some treatment, and went on to play over an hour of the match before coming off midway through the second half.
Liverpool won 2-1 after a stunning debut goal from Christian Benteke. Though another former Spurs player, Jon Obika, scored a leveller for the hosts, Reds youngster Sheyi Ojo scored a late winner.
It is likely we'll learn more this week regarding whether Swindon were impressed enough with Vigouroux to bring him in on loan for the season, having seen first choice Wes Foderingham move to Rangers on a free transfer this summer, though he did win man of the match for Mark Cooper's side.
