Harry Redknapp reacts to Villa-Berbatov speculation, raises doubt

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov this summer.

Harry Redknapp has explained on Kicca.com that a strike-partnership between Dimitar Berbatov and Emmanuel Adebayor will not work at Aston Villa.

According to media reports, Villa are interested in signing Togolese striker Adebayor from Tottenham Hotspur and former Spurs star Berbatov, who is a free agent at the moment.

The Mirror claims that Adebayor has already undergone a medical at the Villans, while The Express reported of the Premier League club’s interest in Berbatov on Saturday.

Redknapp, who worked with Adebayor during his time as manager of Tottenham, has given his take on the reports.

“I heard Dimitar Berbatov is rumoured to be a target for Aston Villa and he’s a fantastic talent,” the Englishman wrote on Kicca.com.

“But I wouldn’t see Tim Sherwood pairing him with Adebayor. I’d be surprised if Tim paired the two of them together to be honest.

“Berbatov’s a real talent, he needs people that are going to be running in behind him because he’s going to come short for the ball. Adebayor’s not going to do that, he likes it into feet as well.”

Berbatov and Adebayor have similarities, and Redknapp’s suggestion that the two would not be able to play together is valid.

Interestingly, both the strikers are past their prime and in their 30s, and one wonders why Villa are being linked with them.

Having worked with Adebayor at Spurs, perhaps Sherwood thinks that he can get him to work well with Berbatov this season.
