Brendan Rodgers gives injury update on Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen

The Liverpool midfielder was taken off in the first half against Swindon Town on Sunday.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the club’s official website about an injury suffered by midfielder Joe Allen.

The Welsh international started this weekend’s pre-season friendly against Swindon Town but he was forced off after just 13 minutes, leaving the Reds boss to sweat on his fitness with only a week to go until the start of the new Premier League season.

Speaking in an interview published by, Rodgers said, “I think Joe was his hamstring, unfortunately, so that doesn’t look so good for us. But we’ll see how that is tomorrow when he has a scan.”

Allen has played 95 matches for Liverpool to date, scoring four goals and providing two assists in the process, but last season injuries played their part as he featured just 21 times in the league.

Considering the players now at Liverpool’s disposal, Allen was always likely to be more of a bit-part player than a regular starter, but with four competitions to navigate he still has a role to play.

Liverpool’s boss will be hoping the injury is not as bad as first feared, as will the player who is still to win over many of the club’s supporters.
