The 24-year-old centre-back has penned a new four-year contract at Villa Park.
The 24-year-old defender had been linked with a £2 million move to Burnley earlier this week [h/t Daily Mail] but, rather than head to the Championship, he now looks set to compete with fellow centre-halves Micah Richards, Ciaran Clark, Jores Okore and Philippe Senderos for minutes at the back.
"I am delighted to sign a new contract here at Villa,” Baker told the club’s official website. "I have been with the club since I was just eight-years-old so I am very happy to continue my career here. It's my home. It's my club.
"It only seems like yesterday that I was in the Academy with Tony McAndrew and the U21s with Kevin MacDonald. Now I am in the first team and it's been an exciting journey for me.”
Baker rose through the Villa ranks to earn his first-team debut in 2011 and has since made 88 appearances across all competitions for the Midlands outfit.
His claret and blue career has been an up-and-down one so far, though, having struggled to produce a consistent run of form during his first two full campaigns with the senior squad.
The former trainee started last season on the bench as a result but soon showed his promise while deputising for the ailing Ron Vlaar in the 1-0 win at Liverpool, when he put up a heroic performance alongside new signing Philippe Senderos.
However, the ex-England Under-21 international would go on to endure fitness problems of his own over the rest of the term, as reoccurring knee injuries limited him to just 13 total appearances.
New boss Tim Sherwood still must have seen enough potential to believe he warrants a place in his long-term plans but not all supporters seem to share his view.
While teammate Gary Gardner was quick to take to Twitter to congratulate his fellow academy graduate on his new deal, the claret and blue faithful were split over whether it was a good move for their team.
Whether Sherwood rates Baker or simply wants some continuity , he's a villa player and going nowhere so we should support him #avfc— brian hennessy (@henobri) July 31, 2015
few fans critical of Baker - we need him. Need as many cb as poss look at the injuries we had last season okore played through injury #avfc— ElectriCheese (@ElectriCheese) July 31, 2015
Baker getting a new contract can only be good surely? He is not that old and has shown glimpses that he can be a consistent regular CB #avfc— Andrew Ashburn (@AndrewAshburn) July 31, 2015
Such a good window and then Baker signs a new 4 yr deal! He's useless #avfc— Zoe (@zk16204) July 31, 2015
Doesn't Nathan Baker need to have some quality to earn a new FOUR year deal? #AVFC— Jack Kinnersley (@KinnersleyJ) July 31, 2015
Looking forward to Nathan Baker giving away crucial goals for us for the next 4 years... #avfc— Ian Ashworth (@ianashworth80) July 31, 2015
Baker a new contract! Worst player I've ever seen in a villa shirt, would have drove him to Burnley myself for £2m #avfc— Neil O'Sullivan (@nellyosullivan1) July 31, 2015
As for Baker, I've never been his biggest fan, but can see the virtue of keeping a guy like him around with such an influx of players. #avfc— Alex Berwick (@Alex_Berwick) July 31, 2015
#AVFC Why has Nathan Baker been given a new 4-year contract? Did Tim go to the pub at lunchtime?— brucemacdonald .... (@brucemacgolf) July 31, 2015
I can't fault Baker's effort and commitment but I can fault his quality. Still, while he's here I hope he does well. #avfc— Anthony (@AJLloyd83) July 31, 2015
Cant say im happy about baker signing a new contract. Think he's a liability and a championship player at best #avfc— George Wheeler (@GRWheeler7) July 31, 2015
I'm proper baffled that Baker has been given a new contract. I don't think his talent or ability stretches to where we want to go. #avfc— Leighton Castle (@LeightonCastle) July 31, 2015
Pleased Baker has been given a new contract as improved last season. Needs to keep developing now & cut out the injuries #avfc— Lee Bickerton (@Lee_Bickerton) July 31, 2015
I must be one of the only ones glad Baker has signed a new contract. #avfc— Jason Price (@PriceyNumber1) July 31, 2015
I seem to be in the minority that Baker signing is a good thing. It's good but will be happier if Clark signs. #avfc— The Droyd (@The_Droyd) July 31, 2015
4 year deal for Nathan Baker. Think the lad has potential but not 100% sure in this one. #AVFC— Yippy Yi Ayyy (@YippyYiAyyy) July 31, 2015
