Tottenham Hotspur fans will be getting used to the name Clinton N’Jie after the 21-year-old Lyon man became one of the players regularly linked with a potential move to White Hart Lane this summer.
There have been contrasting reports as to how much it would take to bring the player to North London and now French newspaper L’Equipe have got involved.
They claim Tottenham have made a bid of £7million plus £5million in add-ons, which would be a reasonable price for a player who, while innately talented, has only scored eight goals in 43 matches for Lyon to date.
However, L’Equipe claims that if Tottenham were to bid £10.5million outright then Lyon would be hard pressed to refuse.
That is an interesting twist in the tale given that Spurs need a new front-man and have a squad that is benefitting from youth.
In the years to come Tottenham could be one of the best sides in the country if their next generation of players continue to blossom together and in N’Jie they could have another striker to develop alongside Harry Kane.
It would be a sizeable investment for a player who is unproven in England and is only just beginning his journey in the game, but if Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was prepared to go to £7million, what chance him adding the additional £3.5million it would seemingly take to get his man?
