Sunderland end their pre-season preparations with a match against German side Hannover 96 this weekend, with Black Cats manager Dick Advocaat having just one more game before the competitive action kicks off next Saturday.
Sunderland face Leicester City on the opening day of the campaign and Advocaat’s side have certainly had a mixed pre-season to date, beating Darlington and Toronto but losing to Doncaster Rovers, Pachuca and Sacramento.
In terms of new arrivals Sunderland have signed Sebastian Coates, Younes Kaboul, Jeremain Lens and Adam Matthews so far this summer, and while a couple more additions may be needed they have certainly strengthened wisely at the back.
After a worrying season prior to Advocaat’s arrival at the Stadium of Light, it is now up to the players at his disposal to ensure they bring the good times back to the club, meaning their preparations are vital.
