Aston Villa have confirmed on their official website that they have completed the signing of France under-21 midfielder Jordan Veretout on a five-year deal.
The 22-year-old arrives at the club from Ligue 1 club Nantes, which has been his home club since 2003, for an undisclosed fee.
He is the fourth player to join Villa from the French top flight this summer, following the arrivals of Jordan Amavi, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Ayew, all of whom are expected to play a key role in the upcoming season.
Veretout was one of the stand-out young midfielders last season in Ligue 1 and he has been developing well over the past couple of seasons.
He made 36 appearances for Nantes, scoring seven goal and assisting seven more, while fashioning a club best 72 key passes.
His arrival will go some way to replacing the loss of Tom Cleverley, who joined Everton earlier in the summer, and former captain Fabian Delph, who left for Manchester City following a dramatic turn of events shortly after.
"I'm really pleased Jordan decided to choose Aston Villa over the other options he had and opt to continue his development with us," manager Tim Sherwood told the official club website, following the Frenchman's arrival.
"He has played over 140 games in Ligue 1 and is a really exciting young player. I know he is very highly rated over in France so we are delighted to get this deal over the line."
Here is how Twitter reacted to the Frenchman's arrival.

Only just seen Villa have agreed to sign Vertout unreal signing that. Yet to see any French journalist who doesn't rate him very highly— Bobby Gibson (@bobbynufcgibson) July 30, 2015

Amavi and Vertout both now at Villa. Two great signings for them no matter how much they paid, both should do well.— Cam (@ReversePass) July 31, 2015
