Mitrovic joined the Magpies from Belgian giants Anderlecht last month and is arguably the most glamorous signing for the Premier League outfit so far this summer.
The Serbia international striker has arrived at St. James’ Park amid hype and expectations, and Perez seems to think highly of his new teammate.
“He’s a very good player and we played well together at York,” the 22-year-old told The Chronicle.
Big season ahead
Perez was one of the better players for Newcastle last season, scoring seven goals and creating 27 chances in 36 Premier League matches.
The Spaniard is unlikely to be a first-choice striker this season, with Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
However, Perez will play an important role for Newcastle, especially as he can also play out wide.
The Magpies will be aiming to finish in the top 10 of the Premier League this season, and they will need all the players to contribute.
