The Greek international ended last season on loan at Al-Hilal.

It is reported in Italy that Sampdoria are set to sign former Celtic and West Brom attacker Georgios Samaras.

The Greek international is all set to join the Genoa side, according to Eurosport.

Sampdoria first tried to sign Samaras last summer, but failed in their move for the player, as reported at the time by the Daily Record.

In the end he left Celtic on a free transfer, but headed to Premier League side West Brom instead. His time at The Hawthorns turned out to be a disaster.

Samaras, who had previously struggled in England during a stint with Manchester City, failed to make an impact with The Baggies.

He ended up playing just the eight games as a substitute for the club, without scoring a single goal, before leaving for Al-Hilal in February. His loan spell was a moderate success, but he did not enjoy his time in the Middle East and has wanted a European move this summer.

It now looks as though the West Brom flop, who was released by the club a fortnight ago, has his wish and will be playing in Serie A next season.
