Villa have been busy in the transfer market already this summer, bringing in Mark Bunn, Micah Richards, Jose Crespo, Jordan Amavi, Idrissa Gueye, Scott Sinclair and Jordan Ayew, but manager Tim Sherwood is still on the lookout for new additions.
Reports from The Independent suggest that Villa are close to landing strikers Emmanuel Adebayor and Rudy Gestede from Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers respectively - but one more deal is close to completion too.
Sky Sports report that French midfielder Jordan Veretout is set to undergo a medical with Villa today ahead of his proposed move from Nantes to Villa Park.
The 22-year-old midfielder has come up through the ranks at Nantes, and has racked up almost 150 appearances for the club already - despite his age.
Now though, his time with the Ligue 1 side is set to come to an end, with a move to Villa Park moving ever closer, according to reports.
What could Villa's midfield look like this season?
Sherwood is expected to stick with the diamond midfield he had so much success with towards the end of last season, but having lost Fabian Delph and Tom Cleverley, Sherwood needs to bed in his new signings.
It's likely that Carlos Sanchez and Ashley Westwood will battle it out for the holding midfield role, with Veretout and Idrissa Gueye likely to feature as central midfielders, with Jack Grealish playing behind a front two, possibly consisting of Emmanuel Adebayor and Jordan Ayew.
With Veretout set to follow Amavi, Gueye and Ayew from France to Villa Park, the quartet need to rely on each other to adapt quickly at Villa - and all four should be key players for Sherwood this season.
