HITC Sport understands Chelsea are poised to sign Augsburg defender Baba Rahman.
Chelsea are confident of securing a deal for highly rated Augsburg defender Baba Rahman before the start of the Premier League next week.
Chelsea have made Ghanaian full-back Rahman one of their top targets all summer having tracked him for some time.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new left-back following the departure of Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid after just one season at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old impressed at Augsburg last season and his performances have attracted the interest of a host of clubs across Europe including Manchester City and Arsenal.
Augsburg are resigned to losing Rahman following his rise to prominence and Chelsea are determined to win the race for his signature, seeing the Ghana international as someone with huge potential who can become a mainstay in the Chelsea side for years to come.
Mourinho confirmed in his press conference ahead of Sunday's Community Shield clash with Arsenal that he was hoping to bring in a new left-back. When asked about the arrival of a new defender, he said: "I don't know. But we try. We don't have, we have only one. We are trying."
And, when pressed over whether the new signing could be Baba Rahman, he replied: “He is an Augsburg player. I don't speak.”
Talks are understood to be at an advanced stage between both clubs and Chelsea are confident of tying up a deal for the African next week.
