Michael Johnson raves about Rodolph Austin

Sheffield Wednesday

Former Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin was a target for Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Michael Johnson has been singing the praises of former Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin on social networking site Twitter.

The Jamaica international is a free agent at the moment, having been released by the Championship outfit at the end of the 2014-15 season.

The 30-year-old has been a target for Sheffield Wednesday this summer, but BBC Sport quotes his agent Darryl Powell as saying that he will not be able to join the Owls due to work permit issues.

Former Derby County defender Johnson, who played on loan for Wednesday in 2007, seems to rate Austin highly.

Austin is a hugely experienced defensive midfielder, and he would have certainly been a very good addition to the current Wednesday squad.

The former SK Brann star was a key player for Leeds over the past three years, and many observers will suggest that the West Yorkshire outfit should have retained his services for the 2015-16 campaign.
