The Hammers played out a draw with AFC Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League third qualifying round first-leg tie at home.
The Premier League outfit went 2-0 up at the Boleyn Ground, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Zarate, who scored in the encounter, has revealed the extent of disappointment in the Hammers’ dressing room.
“It was bad in the dressing room after the game because we scored two goals and in the second half we had to play a little bit more, but that is football,” the Argentine told West Ham’s official website.
“It was great for me to score a goal but I am also very sad as this is not a good result for us.”
Disadvantage West Ham United?
Ideally, West Ham should have won the game on Thursday with ease and maintained their chances of progressing to the group stage of the Europa League.
Slaven Bilic’s side can still make it through, but they have to now step up their game.
Winning against Astra away from home in Romania is not going to be easy, but West Ham do have a good bunch of players who can do just that.
