Former Arsenal player Ian Selley told talkSPORT that he feels this weekend is a great opportunity for the club’s manager Arsene Wenger to prove a point against Jose Mourinho.
Wenger’s record against Mourinho led sides doesn’t make for pretty reading, but Selley has suggested that the Frenchman has an opportunity to get one over on his old foe.
“It’s good to see personalities in the game – I think Arsene will put his strongest team out and will want to get one over on Jose and Chelsea, I don’t think it’s going to be a low key affair and it could be quite feisty – I think this is an opportunity for him,” he told talkSPORT.
An early indication for the season ahead
While this is not as important a game as the Premier League or a domestic tie between the two sides, it is a good chance to get an early indication of where both teams are ahead of the league.
Arsenal have been impressive in pre-season and appear to have carried on the momentum they created for themselves towards the back end of the last campaign.
They will be confident and will fancy their chances ahead of this game, with a determination to produce a solid display which sends out a message.
On the other hand, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will sense this as a real opportunity to show his tactical dominance compared to Wenger, regardless of the nature of the match.
Mourinho is one of the best tacticians in the game and it will be interesting to judge his mentality and mood as the Blues look to defend their title.
