Brentford have rejected a £3million bid from Championship rivals Hull City for striker Andre Gray, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Hull boss Steve Bruce has targeted Gray as someone who can get the goals next season to boost the Tigers’ bid for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Hull are expected to lose Nikica Jelavic and Dame N'Doye in the wake of their relegation, and Bruce is in the market for striking reinforcements.
Gray is at the top of his wanted list having scored 18 goals last season to help Brentford reach the play-off semi-finals.
Hull's opening offer of £3million was immediately turned down by Brentford, with the Griffin Park outfit valuing the former Luton Town man in the £8million bracket.
Hull have also bid for Gray's Brentford team-mate Moses Odubajo, as revealed by HITC Sport on Thursday, and have triggered a release clause of £3.5million in his contract.
It remains to be seen if Hull will come back with a new improved bid for Gray, with Brentford reluctant to lose their star striker with the new Championship season just over a week away.
