Have Southampton already replaced Clyne? Twitter reacts to Cedric Soares' European display

Southampton Huddle

Cedric Soares was the star performer as Southampton took on Vitesse yesterday evening.

Few at St. Mary's would have expected summer signing Cedric Soares to have made quite the impact he has since joining Southampton.

Although the 23-year-old full-back is yet to feature in the Premier League for the Saints, he is already shaping up to be one of the best purchases of the current window.

Signed by manager Ronald Koeman to replace Nathaniel Clyne, following the Englishman's move to Liverpool, Cedric certainly looks capable of replacing his predecessor, as he showed in the club's recent European victory.

As the Saints romped to a 3-0 win over Dutch outfit Vitesse in the Europa League qualifiers, Cedric emerged as the star of the evening, outclassing the rest of his teammates and his fellow debutants.

The adventurous Portuguese international offered the Saints an outlet down the right touchline and was eager to get involved in attacking moves while fulfilling his defensive duties.

He already looks a capable replacement for Clyne and Southampton fans were quick to express this view as they took to Twitter to praise the Portuguese's performance.

Here are a few of the best tweets following Thursday evening's action.
