The Welsh under-21 international is now hoping to push on into the first-team.
Everton have announced today that they have given versatile Welshman Gethin Jones a new deal at Goodison Park.
The club have confirmed that the 19-year-old, who was into the final year of his deal with Everton, had signed a new two-year extension to remain at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future.
The Australian born teenager started his career as a central midfielder, but in recent times has become more adept in the right-back position.
He made his senior debut for Everton in the Europa League tie with FC Krasnodar last season and also spent time with League Two Plymouth Argyle. He played centre midfield whilst at Home Park and impressed, helping the side in the League Two play-offs.
Can he feature this season?
If he is playing at right-back he might have a chance. Last season Seamus Coleman carried the flag at full-back, but in terms of cover Everton struggle.
Tony Hibbert, of course, does a job. But time is seriously catching up on the cult hero and there is little else in terms of support.
If Jones can continue to impress than in the future he might be the man who comes in when Coleman misses out.
