Adebayor has been tipped to join Aston Villa on a loan deal, as reported by the Daily Mirror, for the coming season and the club’s ex-striker feels Sherwood will have a genuine belief that he can get the very best out of what the forward has left in gas tank.
“Tim thinks he can – He took over at Tottenham and Adebayor was in the same position – Tim got the best out of him and thinks he can do the same – I think Benteke and Adebayor both struggle in teams with systems that don’t get the best out of them,” he told talkSPORT.
How can Villa get the most out of Adebayor?
He’s not the sort of striker who has the best touch or will do a great deal of running out of possession so it’s important that Sherwood makes sure the service into him is consistent and reliable.
That means the central midfield players, someone like Jack Grealish, need to focus hard on getting possession into him as quickly as possible, while working hard to utilise other pockets of space all over the team.
It also means ensuring that there are good options and pace out wide, with players getting in behind full-backs to get the ball into the box to give Adebayor something to attack.
Belief and confidence
It’s down to the manager to ensure that the striker believes he’s at the right club, which should improve his form which will in turn improve his confidence.
Adebayor is capable of taking teams apart, but needs to start believing that again if he’s to have an impact for Aston Villa.
