Former Aston Villa and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT he feels there are two players currently at Liverpool who will be integral to the impact that Christian Benteke has at the club.
The dust has long since settled on the Belgian’s move from Villa Park to Anfield and the ex-Villa man was quizzed over whether he thought the forward would prove to be a success for his new club.
“I think Liverpool have got creativity in their team. They’ve got Coutinho and Firmino from Brazil is a real talent. They’re gifted boys – I do think Benteke will get chances,” he told talkSPORT.
A worry for some Liverpool fans
There will be a very real worry for some Liverpool fans over Benteke’s style and whether he fits in with the pure brand of football that Brendan Rodgers likes his teams to play.
However, there is plenty of creativity in the side as Cascarino suggests and Liverpool can effectively create a situation where those players do the leg work so Benteke doesn’t have to.
He’s the sort of player who thrives on service and chances being provided for him, using his muscle and power to make it difficult for defenders to contain him.
Another important player
Another important player in terms of releasing Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino to go and be effective is James Milner.
Milner’s discipline in terms of holding a position and drifting into areas where he’s needed is vital and something which allows players that little bit of extra freedom to take a risk which could end up winning Liverpool a match.
