The West Ham United defender scored an own-goal on Thursday and he has since reacted on social media.
I feel sorry for last night match's result, but I feel confident for the qualification on the way back! pic.twitter.com/SuwPGnR69o— Angelo Ogbonna (@OgbonnaOfficial) July 31, 2015
The two sides were playing in the third qualifying round of this season’s Europa League and for a time it looked as though Slaven Bilic’s side were coasting to victory.
With 51 minutes on the clock West Ham were 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Enner Valencia and Mauro Zarate, but James Collins was sent off and the Romanian side then saw a route back into the tie.
Fernando Boldrin halved the deficit with 19 minutes remaining and then summer signing Ogbonna put through his own net in the 82nd minute to ensure the Hammers have it all to do in the second leg.
Ogbonna has been playing his way into form in West Ham’s recent pre-season friendlies and he looked good in last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Charlton Athletic, but he was left to regret the moment that gave Astra their second away-goal of the night.
Writing on Twitter on Friday morning, the former Juventus centre-back said, “I feel sorry for last night’s match result, but I feel confident for the qualification on the way back.”
