Andy Gray: Arsenal are the team threatening Chelsea's Premier League title defence

Former Scotland international Andy Gray feels Arsenal will be the side to challenge Chelsea in the title race.

Former Aston Villa and Everton striker Andy Gray told talkSPORT that he feels Chelsea will fear Arsenal more than Manchester City in terms of the Premier League title race.

Manchester City have spent big money in this current transfer window while the Gunners have been relatively quiet, despite Petr Cech arriving at the Emirates from Stamford Bridge.

However, Gray suggested that it’s Arsene Wenger’s team that will be putting Chelsea under heavy pressure once the competitive action gets underway next weekend.

“For me right now before we know who’s come in at the end of August with the end of the window, right now for me, he’s got more to worry about with Arsenal than Manchester City – They are looming large in his rear view mirror without a shadow of a doubt,” he told talkSPORT.

Can Arsenal win the Premier League?

They certainly can because they do have experience and talent in key areas of their side, with time left for Wenger to make further signings in the transfer window.

If Arsenal can show the defensive discipline needed to produce the goods in big games and if Francis Coquelin can be consistent in terms of protecting the back four, there’s no reason the Gunners shouldn’t be competing right at the top of the table throughout the season.

Transfer window is crucial

If the window ended now, Arsenal would have a decent chance of winning the league and if they make one or two more signings before the end of August, they will have an exceptional chance of winning the league.

It’s confusing to understand why Wenger wouldn’t make more of the gifted position the Gunners are in, in terms of their resources and giving themselves a better chance of becoming the best team in England again.
