Volleys, more volleys, LOTS OF VOLLEYS!

On this day in 1996, Alan Shearer returned home to Newcastle United for a then world record fee of £15million and sent 20,000 Geordies into delirium when he was unveiled.

While £15m seemed like a ridiculous amount of money at the time, and Shearer's decision to choose Kevin Keegan's Newcastle over Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United seemed even more ridiculous, it didn't take long for the England international to show why he moved to the Magpies. In fact, it was his first home game against Wimbledon when he managed to open his account for the Toon, one of 148 goals he would end up scoring for Newcastle in the Premier League.

With so many goals to chose from, it is hard to narrow down his best goals, but we are going to give it a bloomin' good go! So, here are our top five favourite Alan Shearer goals!

1. THAT volley against Everton

I'd say that this is 40% Shearer, 60% Shola Ameobi and his knock down...

2. Shearer's Seven Heaven

If thumping Spurs 7-1 wasn't good enough, Big Al popped up with another cheeky volley – he just loves a volley!

3. Spurs Again... Same Result!

Poor old Spurs, they can't catch a break.

4. NOT A CROSS vs Aston Villa

Big Al reckons this isn't a cross and who can argue with him? What a audacious attempt!

5. Absolute Thunderb*stard Against Chelsea

Holding off Marcel Desaily is one thing but thumping it from about 35 yards is another! Tony Yebaoh would have been very proud of this.
