HITC Sport understands from sources close to a potential deal that several Championship clubs are pursuing Sunderland winger Will Buckley, with the likes of Leeds United and Birmingham City keen on a loan agreement.
It is, however, understood that the Black Cats would prefer to offload the 25-year-old on a permanent basis.
The Premier League outfit would be looking for around £1.5million for a player only taken to the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2014.
Buckley moved to Sunderland from Brighton & Hove Albion 12 months ago, penning a three-year contract.
He did make 22 top-flight appearances last season, but is not considered to be part of Dick Advocaat’s long-term plans.
That could open the door for a move elsewhere, with Leeds known to be in the market for creativity on the flanks – with Uwe Rosler admitting as much in quotes carried by the Yorkshire Post.
Their Championship rivals Birmingham are also looking to bolster their ranks in the final third, but both clubs could face competition from elsewhere if a scramble for Buckley’s services is sparked.
