Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier jokingly tips club to make Europa League final through Twitter

The Saints take on Vitesse this evening as they hope to make it to Basel next summer.

Southampton get their European campaign under way this evening, as they face Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa League third qualifying round at St Mary’s.

The Saints had an excellent campaign last year, despite losing several key men in the summer, and this year they will hope to do the same.

They have lost Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool and Morgan Schneiderlin to Manchester United. Meanwhile, last season loanee Toby Alderweireld decided to swap Atletico Madrid for Tottenham Hotspur instead of Southampton this summer.

One man hopeful that this will not be an issue in their Europa League hopes is Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier.

Le Tissier played over 500 games and scored over 200 goals for the club in a 16-year career at Southampton. He is still revered as perhaps the greatest player in the history of Southampton FC and he sent out this Tweet earlier today – clearly confident that The Saints might go all the way to the final in Basel next May.

Le Tissier will however hope Southampton cope with the rigours of both European and domestic football better than Everton and Swansea City have in recent years.
