According to the Mirror, Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is set to sign for Aston Villa today, following yesterday's successful medical, while free agent Dimitar Berbatov could join him shortly after at Villa Park.
The 31-year-old Togo international had a medical with the Midlands club yesterday and is poised to be announced as the club’s eighth summer signing, following Jose Angel Crespo, Scott Sinclair, Micah Richards, Mark Bunn, Jordan Amavi, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Ayew.
He will be hoping to rekindle his relationship with Villa chief Tim Sherwood, for whom he bagged 14 goals in 2013/2014 after the 46-year-old replaced Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane two seasons ago.
Meanwhile, the report also suggests that ex-Tottenham and Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov, who recently found himself released by French outfit Monaco, is desperate to return to the Premier League.
The 34-year-old, who scored seven goals in 26 appearances last season, was allegedly offered to Villa earlier this month when they still had Christian Benteke among their ranks, but his approach was rebuffed.
Now, however, with the Belgian international out of the picture - following his £32.5 million move to Liverpool - he is hoping that the Midlands outfit change their minds.
Despite the player's interest, Tim Sherwood could see a move for Berbatov as one to avoid.
Adebayor's arrival already provides him with quite a handful, especially considering the Togo international's volatile temperament, and the 34-year-old former Bulgarian international is perhaps not the best of options for a side looking to the future.
