Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino told the club’s official website why he was pleased despite the club losing their latest friendly game.
Spurs went down 2-1 at the hands of the MLS All Stars overnight, but Pochettino has explained he was encouraged by the side fighting back from 2-0 down during the game.
The result isn’t significant considering the nature of the game, with emphasis more towards raising the fitness levels of all players and giving some of the younger players game time ahead of an important season.
“We showed a good reaction after going 2-0 down, scored to make it 2-1 and created chances but only scored one goal,” Pochettino told tottenhamhotspur.com.
“It was a difficult game, tough and the players felt it a little in the altitude, but in the end there were lots of positives - and a lot of things that we need to improve as well.”
Fighting qualities will be key
The fighting qualities the team showed during the game are going to be very important looking ahead.
It could have been very easy for the side to roll over given they were only playing a friendly, but there was a determination for Tottenham to get themselves back into the game, showing some real guts and character.
There are going to be occasions over the long Premier League season where Spurs are fully tested.
There will be games where they go behind and games where they need to fight back under difficult circumstances to try and secure a point or to try and win an important match.
There were some positive things to take from the game, but Spurs need to make life easier for themselves when the competitive action starts.
