Dicks stresses the importance of impact players for West Ham this season

West Ham United coach Julian Dicks has explained he's pleased with the intelligence of players coming off of the bench.

West Ham United coach Julian Dicks has stressed the importance of impact players for the team, as he spoke to the club’s official website.

Dicks was extremely impressed with the way the team adapted in the friendly game against Norwich earlier this week, which suggests a cohesion among the Hammers when changes are needed to try and influence a game.

“The players that have gone on are very good players and they’d change most games. They were sat there watching the game and when they came on they just changed it. The passing and the movement was fantastic, it was great to watch,” he told whufc.com.

Significance and challenges over a long season

What Dicks’ comments show is that he feels West Ham are in a position where they now have options in terms of players who can come off of the bench and change the game.

That’s significant because not every game is going to go West Ham’s ways and manager Slaven Bilic will be forced to make changes and switch things around frequently over a long season.

The challenge for the manager and the coaches at the club is to keep everyone motivated so West Ham retain that punch with players coming off of the bench.

Intelligence in the players

Dicks’ comments also show intelligence in the players to concentrate and pay attention to what’s going on during a game.

That’s important because it gives the players on the bench the chance to spot weaknesses and areas they can exploit when they are thrown into games with the intention of making a direct difference in terms of the result.
