West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell says the club have a will to progress in the Europa League.

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell told the club’s official website that the squad needs to relish the number of pre-season games they are playing.

The Hammers face another Europa League game this evening as they look to beat FC Astra to progress to the next stage in the European competition and Cresswell has suggested there is a real will among the squad for the side to develop.

“I don't think many of us have had this amount of pre-season games but we just need to relish it and look forward to the opening Premier League game against Arsenal,” he told

“We want to be in the group stages (of the Europa League) and there will be better teams as the competition progresses.”

A real test for the Hammers

West Ham are facing a real challenge because a high volume of games can create problems for even the biggest clubs with the biggest squads.

Manager Slaven Bilic needs to be constantly on the case in terms of reviewing the fitness of his players to ensure that there are no negative effects in terms of individual and collective performance.

He’s got to rotate effectively to ensure the team is giving themselves the best possible chance of winning every fixture they go into.

The matches could be a positive

On the other hand, the high volume of matches the club have already played could be seen as a positive.

It means that the club’s key players are sharp going into the Premier League season and they could take advantage late into games, when their opponents are starting to fatigue.
