How Twitter reacted to Steven Caulker's Southampton season-loan move from QPR

Southampton have signed Steven Caulker on a season-long loan deal from QPR.

Southampton have confirmed the signing of QPR defender Steven Caulker on a season-long loan deal on the club's official website.

The 23-year-old, who started his career at White Hart Lane with Tottenham, will get another crack at the English top flight after suffering relegation last season.

He made 35 appearances, scoring one goal for Chris Ramsey's side during the previous campaign, but he was powerless to prevent the club's unfortunate return to the Sky Bet Championship.

Ronald Koeman's side have found themselves short of defensive options after a failed attempt to sign Toby Alderweireld, who impressed on loan at the club last year but opted to make a permanent move to Spurs.

According to the Mirror, Bournemouth, West Brom and Stoke had also shown an interest in the 23-year-old, but no one was willing to meet QPR's £8million valuation.

Some Premier League fans have questioned the club's signing, while others have highlighted Caulker's relegation record from the previous two seasons having also tasted the drop with Cardiff City in 2014. However, the for the most-part, the response to his loan-switch has been largely positive.

Here's how Twitter reacted to the Englishman's return to the Premier League with the Saints.
