The tumultuous Tottenham career of Vlad Chiriches appears to be near its end with Di Marzio reporting that a £4.9 million deal has been agreed with Napoli and providing footage of what appears to be the Spurs man arriving in Italy.
The 24-year old will join the Italian club on a five-year deal in a move that represents a loss on the £6.7 million Spurs paid Steaua Bucharest for his services in 2013.
His sale would be the sixth in what has been a summer of upheaval at White Hart Lane as Mauricio Pochettino looks to mould a squad of his own.
While displaying flashes of class, Chiriches’ time at Tottenham will be best defined as erratic and a parting of ways is best for both parties at this stage.
The Romanian undoubtedly possesses quality and composure but never quite adjusted to the physicality of the Premier League and the Spurs backline always looked more prone to error with his inclusion.
Summer of Change
Daniel Levy has altered his stance on sales this summer and has been willing to take losses on those deemed surplus to requirements by Mauricio Pochettino.
With Emmanuel Adebayor set for an Aston Villa medical, according to Sky Sports, and Roberto Soldado linked with a La Liga return – as per the Daily Mail - there looks likely to be a few more outgoings at White Hart Lane yet.
These sales should signify that talks to bring in reinforcements are advanced, with the Spurs squad looking particularly light in central midfield and up front.
James McCarthy has been linked once again, as has Javier Hernandez - by the Mirror - and Spurs fans will be hopeful of some arrivals sooner rather than later with their Premier League opener just 11 days away
