Report: Porto not keen on Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela despite reports

The Portuguese side are not going to make a move for the Argentine this summer.

This week it has been reported that Porto might be in the market for Tottenham Hotspur’s struggling club record signing Erik Lamela.

The likes of talkSPORT claimed that Porto were all set to try and bring the Argentine international in from White Hart Lane on loan for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Porto were said to be keen on the deal, despite Spurs wanting around £5 million for the privilege.

That claim however is now being refuted by reports in Portugal.

O Jogo are claiming that Porto have no real interest in Lamela. Whilst they rate the player they are not believed to be interested in pursuing a deal as they do not feel Spurs will agree to such a switch. They are also not keen on spending that much money on a player they will only have for one season.

Should Spurs get rid of Lamela?

There is no doubt that the £30 million signing from Roma in 2013 has struggled to make a significant impact in North London.

His first season was practically a write off and last season, although an improvement, was still not worth £30 million.

But he is capable of magic – that goal against Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League proves that – and Spurs are not going to be able to recoup much of his lofty original price-tag.

So why bother selling him? Give him one more season to try and prove his worth. A move to Porto seems off the cards but Italian links persist. Tottenham should ignore them and give Lamela a final shot.
