The Foxes are also keen on the French under-21 midfielder.
The Foxes are looking to replace Esteban Cambiasso, who recently left the club on a free transfer, with the French under-21 international now at the top of their list.
Nantes president Waldemar Kita has now in fact made it clear that he is rejecting Leicester’s offer as Veretout wants to join Villa – but claims he is losing out on £3.5 million [€5 million] by doing so.
“He has made his choice, and I am going to go in his direction. They (Aston Villa) are haggling on certain details. They need to be careful because if they continue to haggle they might lose the player from right under their noses.
“They have until this evening to take a decision. I’m set to lose €5m. I am a pillock. I would have never thought I would have done anything other than try to raise the price, but I am not going to go against the boy.
“He is a boy who has never done us wrong, who played the game right until the end, contrary to others, who did not sulk.”
It would appear than that Villa is the destination for Veretout. The talented midfielder will go some way toward replacing captain Fabian Delph – who recently joined Manchester City.
Leicester will have to look elsewhere to replace their talismanic Argentine.
Veretout would represent yet another plunge into the French market from Tim Sherwood.
Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi and Jordan Ayew have all arrived this summer and the Nantes man looks set to follow in their footsteps. Villa it seems are taking full advantage of the depreciated French market in order to get their hands on some bargain buys this summer.
Veretout looks like being the next one through the entrance.
