Tottenham are reportedly pursuing Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic.
Maksimovic, 23, joined Torino from Red Star Belgrade back in his native Serbia in 2013, and has gone on to establish himself as one of the top defenders in Serie A during his time with Giampiero Ventura's men.
Now though, those performances are attracting interest, with Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport reporting that an English club has made a move for Maksimovic - and it's believed to be Tottenham Hotspur, with Torino asking for a fee of €20m (£14m) for their star defender.
A move for another defender would certainly be a surprise from Spurs, given that they have already signed Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld this summer, but with Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches leaving White Hart Lane, manager Mauricio Pochettino could dip back in for another.
That may depend on the future of Federico Fazio, who endured a tough first season in English football, with centre back far from a priority for Spurs right now - making a move for Maksimovic seem unlikely, despite the reports in Italy.
Having lost Matteo Darmian, Alessio Cerci and Ciro Immobile in the last 12 months, Torino will now want to lose another key player, hence their high asking price for Maksimovic.
Ultimately, Tottenham have just enquired about Maksimovic in case they lose a defender, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Barcelona are interested in signing Spurs star Jan Vertonghen - and having potential replacements in mind would be smart from Tottenham.
