Liverpool’s first ever Brazilian has picked out his Reds player to watch this season, and it’s an entirely predictable choice.
Former Liverpool full-back and Rafa Benitez favourite Fabio Aurelio has tipped Philippe Coutinho to shine at Anfield this season.
Aurelio will forever be remembered as the first Brazilian to turn out for the Reds and though injuries curtailed his impact on Merseyside, he remains fond of the club he spent six years with.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Rohan Nairwan of Anfield Chat, the South American was quizzed on who he thought would perform best for Liverpool this season.
Aurelio’s answer was, in truth, an entirely predictable one given both his nationality and the season just past:
“I would go for Coutinho, he did very well last season and if he keeps the form and confidence then he’ll be the best this season.”
The 23-year-old was certainly one of the few bright lights for Liverpool in an otherwise disappointing season last term.
In 52 appearances for the Anfield club, Coutinho scored eight goals and was named the Liverpool FC Fans and Players’ Player of the Year.
Selected to represent Brazil at the Copa America this summer, the attacker also got off the mark for the Selecao, scoring in a 2-0 friendly victory over Mexico.
With Liverpool chasing a return to the top four this season, fans will now be hoping that Aurelio’s prediction rings true.
