The out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur striker is reported to be on the verge of a loan move to Villa Park.
With Emmanuel Adebayor reportedly nearing a move to Aston Villa, one of his potential future teammates certainly seems to be looking forward to the prospect of playing alongside the Tottenham Hotspur striker.
Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that the 31-year-old Togo international is set to undergo a medical at Villa ahead of a proposed loan switch, having been left out of the Tottenham squad that travelled to Denver this week for the MLS All-Star Game.
The news clearly went down well with claret and blue midfielder Gary Gardner, who took to Twitter to express his excitement over the looming deal.
A move to Villa would see Adebayor reunited with ex-Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood, under whom he scored 14 goals in 24 appearances over the second half of the 2013-14 campaign after being brought back into the first-team fold following Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking.
The former Arsenal and Manchester City man again found himself out-of-favour in successor Mauricio Pochettino’s first season in charge, however, netting just twice in 11 starts and six substitute appearances over the course of last term.
A potential loan move to London rivals West Ham United collapsed in the winter but, with Spurs growing increasingly desperate to offload his reported £100,000-per-week salary, he now looks all but set to answer Sherwood’s call for more firepower after Christian Benteke’s recent departure to Liverpool.
The polarising front man will still have to battle with the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, new signing Jordan Ayew and pre-season stars Libor Kozak and Callum Robinson for minutes up top but, given his past work under the Villa boss, it would be no surprise if he ended up seeing the most action out of the group.
