Aston Villa media round-up: Adebayor loan deal imminent, Veretout set for switch

A selection of the stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s protracted exit from White Hart Lane appears to have finally arrived, with Villa Park his likely destination, according to the Independent.

The Spurs outcast is believed to have turned down Crystal Palace and is now set for a reunion with Tim Sherwood, as the former Tottenham boss prepares for life after Christian Benteke.

A loan fee has reportedly been agreed which would see the Togolese striker spend the final year of his Spurs contract at Villa, with the Midlands club also shouldering the burden of his considerable wages.

Another striker with Spurs links could soon be joining Adebayor at Villa, with the enigmatic Dimitar Berbatov linked to a Premier League return by the Express.

The former Spurs striker is a free agent following his release by Monaco this summer, and has been identified as a further option to fill the Benteke void up front.

Strikers are unsurprisingly the theme of the hour as far as links to Villa are concerned and another - in the form of Rudy Gestede - has caught the eye of Tim Sherwood, as per the Daily Mail.

The Blackburn Rovers striker bagged 22 goals last season and Villa are reportedly willing to offer players on loan to secure a deal.

Away from the front-line, Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout is expected to join Villa despite interest from Southampton, according to Nantes-based newspaper Presse Ocean.

The 22-year old has also been linked with Tottenham, Liverpool and Bournemouth but it appears Villa lead the chase and could make the promising Frenchman their fourth Ligue 1 signing this summer.

Finally, Aston Villa are believed to be among those interested in out-of-favour Newcastle centre-back Mike Williamson, as per HITC sources.

The 31-year old has been a mainstay for the Magpies over recent seasons but no longer appears part of Steve McClaren’s plans and Villa now look set to do battle with Leeds United for his signature.
