The 26-year-old Czech striker bagged a brace in Tuesday night's 2-2 friendly draw at Molineux.
Fit-again Libor Kozak made his case for a regular role in Tim Sherwood’s side for the coming campaign on Tuesday night, bagging a brace as Aston Villa were held to a 2-2 friendly draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Czech forward, who also netted in Villa’s pre-season opener against Fulham, took just six minutes to give the visitors the lead at Molineux, firing in a spectacular long-range effort after strike-partner Gabby Agbonlahor cleverly stepped over Alan Hutton's pass.
He could have even had a hat-trick within the opening 13 minutes too, hitting the bar six minutes after opening the scoring and then heading left-back Jordan Amavi’s cross just wide moments later.
The towering striker later put Villa ahead for a second time with 14 minutes left of the match after David Edwards had equalised for the home side four minutes earlier, tapping in Callum Robinson’s low cross to cap a fine performance.
Wolves would go on to level the scores again at the death through Benik Afobe but the result did not take anything away from Kozak’s efforts on the night, having worked tirelessly throughout his 90-minute run-out.
After being out of first-team action for 19 months following horrific leg-break, the former Lazio man’s return to senior action has proved a qualified success so far and bodes well for his forthcoming competitive comeback.
With Christian Benteke now with Liverpool, he will have to compete with new signing Jordan Ayew and the reportedly soon-to-arrive Emmanuel Adebayor for first-team minutes but, having netted four times in his first 14 league games for Villa before being sidelined, the Czech Republic international has definite top-flight talent.
The claret and blue faithful would love nothing more than for him to push himself to the forefront of Sherwood’s’ plans too, given the rave reviews his two-goal performance was getting on Twitter after the match.
Nice to see Kozak scoring a few in pre season. Hopefully he'll get a real chance this season. Looks a proper goalscorer. #AVFC— Chris Driver (@ChrisDriver) July 28, 2015
Am I the only one that would be ok with Kozak as No1 striker? He was brought in to replace CB and he's looked handy in preseason #avfc— Matt D (@everysongsung) July 28, 2015
Great effort tonight from @Libor_Kozak led the line brilliantly and two superb goals.— murph (@murphavfc) July 28, 2015
@Libor_Kozak was an absolute handful for the wolves defence, I'm buzzing to see him terrorising defences this season— King Kozak (@jay_avfc) July 28, 2015
@Libor_Kozak couple of class goals tonight, like having a new signing— Matthew Nicholls (@Wonderlikematty) July 28, 2015
If we had just signed Kozak and seen THAT as his debut performance (which isn't far off!) we'd be going mental with excitement. #avfc— The Window (@avfcNextMatch) July 28, 2015
Im pleased Kozak has silenced the naysayers again. This guy puts the ball away. End of. May not be pretty but effective. #avfc— You Know The Deal... (@Dun_Deal_) July 28, 2015
