Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Wojciech Szczesny's loan move

Arsenal's Polish stopper will spend next season on loan at AS Roma.

Arsenal have confirmed on their official website that their goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will spend next season on loan at Italian side AS Roma.

The Polish international has played 181 times for Arsenal to date but following the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea he was always going to struggle for game-time.

Cech is the undisputed number one at the Emirates Stadium and as a result Szczesny has been sent to Serie A to ensure he gets the first-team football his talent deserves.

The problem for the 25-year-old is that Cech is going to be around for quite some time, so there is a chance – no matter how slim at this time – that Szczesny has played his last match for the Gunners.

Only time will tell, but after 74 clean-sheets in 181 matches for the club it is clear he has what it takes to succeed long term, even if he is not the world-class ‘keeper Arsenal need as they bid for domestic and European success.
