Ashley Young compares Manchester United new boy Memphis Depay to Brazil legend Carlos in odd way

Manchester United midfielder Ashley Young believes that Memphis Depay could be the second coming of Roberto Carlos – in leg shape at least.

One of Memphis Depay’s new Manchester United teammates has compared the Dutchman to Roberto Carlos - but not in the way you may think.

The Brazilian was famous for his powerful free-kicks and fast-paced play from full-back and while Depay is no defender, he does possess one notable similarity: his legs.

That is according to fellow Red Devils star Ashley Young, who used an interview with the official Manchester United website to make his rather unusual comparison.

Quizzed on who, out of the United squad, visits the gym most often, Young offered the following tit bit: “He (Depay) was getting changed the other day and his legs are massive – it was like seeing Roberto Carlos again!”

With Depay already famous for his free-kicks in Holland, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the midfielder scoring a Carlos-esque goal from a dead-ball situation.

And with Louis van Gaal previously playing Young at full-back, we can’t completely rule out seeing Depay in a similar position on at least one occasion next term.

Mind you, if Dirk Kuyt can do it, anyone can, can’t they?

Maybe not.
