As per the latest reports in the Leicester Mercury, Leicester City are in a battle with Marseille and Bayer Leverkusen to sign Chile international Charles Aranguiz.
The Foxes have so far been quiet on the transfer front this summer, signing just three players: defenders Christian Fuchs and Robert Huth, and Japanese forward Shinji Okazaki.
However, newly-appointed boss Claudio Ranieri missed out in the transfer all Leicester fans wanted, the re-signing of midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.
The Argentine defensive midfielder was utterly superb in his single season at the King Power stadium, proving a shield in-front of the defence and stepping up when the club needed him most.
His performances towards the end of the campaign were very much reminiscent of his displays during his Inter Milan heydays, a commanding figure who lead the team to Premier League survival.
However, the 34-year-old Player of the Year turned down a new contract offer and subsequently left on a free, leaving a massive void left behind and one Ranieri must fill this summer.
Bringing in that all-important defensive midfielder isn’t going to be easy, but reports suggesting they’ve identified Internacional star Aranguiz as an ideal replacement is exciting news.
The 26-year-old was recently one of the stars of Chile’s Copa America success and was last season named the Most Valuable Player in Brazil’s Campeonato Gaucho.
Tactically switched on with excellent stamina, marking, tackling and deep playmaking abilities, Aranguiz is the perfect Cambiasso alternative and would be the best signing Leicester could make this summer.
